Before I start this, I want to preface by saying that yes, the more popular cosplayers and costumers do a good job on their outfits and that they look good. HOWEVER.
Every time I see Yaya Han across my feed on Facebook, the only thing I can think back to is an article about Hero's of Cosplay (a show I still refuse to watch. Don't have to watch Yaya and Friends to get the drama of the community that she has a talent for driving further), which they spoke of those on the show having "talent" and properly showing off and presenting the "craft". By talent and craft I of course mean tits and ass. You don't have to mile deep neck line or mile high hem line to have a good cosplay, nor do you have to show tits and ass all the time. If you want to, more power to you. How you dress isn't my business (depsite my rant on Yaya, she does have a right to wear whatever, however). By when you use your "talent and craft" to show your cosplay to the world, cosplayers like myself get calls names and shamed do not being like Yaya or Jessica or anyone else like that. I know better people and costumers than her conceded, self centered, holier than thou ass. Yeah she was sweet when I asked for her picture at Wizard last year. Then she snipped at me and rolled her eyes. Long day for her? Maybe. But fucking manners says you should be nice to people no matter your stress
I say again,YES she has every right to wear what she wants, when she wants and how she wants, but that doesn't shield her from what she does to the community. She has introduced the super competitive, everyone-for-themselves-and-get-as-popular-as-you-can mentality, that you can make money by selling your cosplays and photos, and that you're only a "pro" cosplayers of costumer only if you can make money off your outfits and/or body. Shall I repeat that I don't care what someone wears? Because I don't. What I DON'T agree with is the fact that Yaya makes her living off of the cosplay community, turning it into an industry instead of a hobby, an art, a passsion. I feel that those things are what has been missing from the community for a long time. So many people I have heard at cons are upset because no one is taking their photo and they wonder why they bothered cosplaying in the first place, or that they aren't as popular as other cosplayers. You shouldn't cosplay for the attention. You should do it for the love of the character, the show, game, comic. Don't do it for the money. Show off both of your talents and crafts, but please. Don't turn the community that is already having some serious issues into a group with even more issues where people are too discouraged to cosplay if they don't look "right" or can't make money off of it.
Sorry for the rant. xD I needed to get this off my chest though...
